Although the positives of remote work outweigh the negatives, there are many cons to working from home. One of them is how easy it is to fall into some bad habits that may affect your health negatively. You should always work on staying healthy while working from home.

It’s very easy to fall into these bad habits if you don’t pay attention…

When I first started working remotely, I fell into some bad habits that really set me back on my health journey. These bad habits are still something most remote workers battle today, but I hope that these 5 easy tips to staying healthy while working from home will help you get on the right path.

1. Plan your meals and snacks for the week.

This was a big one for me. This was one of the top two things I struggled with the most. I found myself snacking more, and making regular trips to the refrigerator and food pantry often throughout the day.

It was so bad, that I really did not realize how many times I was doing it during the day until I was actually reminded one day by my wife.

It was then I realized that I needed to stop…

What was the worse part about it was my food choice. Usually, it was something that was loaded with sugar, which we all know is not a good idea.

This really tough to accomplish when you are working from home. You won’t understand unless you spend a considerable amount of time by yourself at home, or are actually working remotely.

One idea here is to plan your meals and snacks ahead of time so that you can properly manage this part . This will help prevent you from making trips to the fridge.

It also would help to not buy the food that is bad for you and replace it with healthy items such as fruits, nuts, and other healthy alternatives.

And for the last resort a lock with a key that will not have access for isn’t a bad idea either.

2. Get up and move.

Along with the refrigerator, this one is another difficult one for most. It is easy to get involved in your work and to completely lose track of time, but we all know that sitting for long periods is not good for your health.

It is a good idea to break away from your work every hour for 5 to 10 minutes to stretch and move around a little bit. This will keep you nimble and believe it or not keep you focused on your task.

It is not only great for your body, but also your mind as well.

If you have trouble keeping track of time. Set up an alarm sequence that repeats every hour during your work week so it reminds you to stop get up and get moving.

There are also apps out there that will help notify you of things like this as well. We will cover that at some point in the future.

3. Use your lunch to walk not to eat.

Since you are working from home, you could just eat your lunch while your working and then reserve your half-hour or hour break for walking or exercising.

Some of us just cannot get up early enough in the day to do a full workout in the morning. Thankfully when you are working from home, you have the sweet option of turning your lunch hour into exercise or work hour.

This not only puts that time to good use but makes for a schedule that you are more likely to follow. It is much easier to walk during your lunch than trying to pull yourself out of bed early in the morning.

4. Set a routine.

Getting up at the same time every day. Working at the same time, and doing things such as walks every single day will impact your health positively.

If we create a daily routine, we have a better chance of staying on track and we will not shock our body.

It also helps us to create better habits to keep us fresh and focused throughout the day. Doing the same positive things day after day is a good thing.

So tonight set up your daily plan.

  • Set your wake uptime
  • Plan to take a shower.
  • Plan to get dressed
  • Plan your work schedule.
  • Plan your breaks
  • Plan your snacks and meals
  • Plan your shut downtime.
  • Plan your Family and fun time.
  • And repeat the next day and the next day.

5. Rest your eyes.

Eye Strain.

Starring at a screen all day can really impact your eyes. One of the worst things I have ever experienced was eye strain. It was so bad that I couldn’t even look at the computer.

I had to completely separate myself from looking at a screen for over four days before I started feeling better. It was horrible.

You need to rest your eyes often. You should look away from the screen every so often and look at something in a distance. It always seems to help me.

When your workday is done, put the phone down, and the computer screen. Relax your eyes, trust me, you know what to have headaches or deal with eye strain it is not fun.

Take your health seriously when working remotely.

These 5 easy tips on staying healthy while working at home should be some easy things that you could put into practice. Remember, it is easy to fall out of shape while you are working at home, so making sure you have a plan, is very important.
